Overview

The new Performing Arts Auditorium for the San Diego Jewish Academy was a renovation of existing classrooms and breakrooms. There were minor MEP upgrades and rerouting in the level 1 space, while most of the scope of work was on level 2 and the roof. The project design involved removing the existing roofing system and roof structure to install additional structural steel to increase the interior floor to ceiling space for the new audio and visual design intent. The level 2 space received a full gut to make space for new dressing rooms, a green room, AV room and of course the new performance stage. To really bring the space to life, 6 new dimmable skylights were added to the raised ceiling area, accented by a beautiful wood ceiling system.

This was a huge upgrade to the campus and benchmark for a new design palette that the school is looking to implement throughout the academy. The school did not have a proper performance stage prior to this project, so they are excited to roll out their theater program and bring in guest speakers to host amazing events. We finished on schedule while ensuring there was little to no impact on the schools ability to operate.

Hello Hello

Lorem ipsum

This project brought with it a handful of challenges including, unexpected inclement weather, maintaining a work environment that had little to no impact on the students and faculty, and unforeseen updates to aging electrical, mechanical, and plumbing equipment.

Providing consistent clarity and finding new and creative ways of solving challenges alongside our trade partners allowed us to successfully complete this project on schedule.

We were honored to be an integral part of this project for the San Diego Jewish Academy. Their beautiful state-of-the-art K-12 campus provides space for meaningful engagement, innovation, and collaboration among the students. Congrats to San Diego Jewish Academy for this exciting new addition to their already exceptional offerings.

Planning Process

As this project took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, there were some key challenges that required strategic planning and oversight. These included supply chain impacts and manpower shortages. In addition, the team also had to manage flooding that took place as a result of inclement weather. However, despite  these challenges, Align was able to creatively execute the project and maintain a healthy working space between trades—all on schedule and within budget.

Overview

This project was for a first-of-its-kind wind and wave simulator designed to provide an interdisciplinary science team with the ability to monitor pollutants’ effects on a wide range of ocean conditions. Scope included micropiles for the concrete wave tank, new 800A electrical service, mechanical yard, and other related work within and adjacent to the historical Hydraulics Lab (H-Lab) building overlooking the Scripps pier.

One of a kind wind/wave instrument to help study climate change.

Planning Process

The planning process included numerous collaborative meetings with both the make-ready design team and the SOARS instrument design team. Align took the lead on defining the clear distinction of make-ready vs SOARS scope, and planned the numerous handoffs back and forth as the instruments were constructed. Align also managed site safety and logistics for both project phases, and coordinated a safe and efficient working environment within the tight space, among active research, students, and the public.
